After moving in with Adam, I found there wasn’t really a good spot to hang jackets, purses and to store winter accessories. Our town home’s layout is a little weird – when you walk in the front door, you end up directly in the living room. The only logical spot to create an entry way was over by our basement stairs, which is about 15 feet from the front door. I knew we needed a place to corral all of our stuff, so I did some research.
I found some common recommendations for things to include in your entry way:
- Hooks for jackets and purses
- Containers for gloves, hats and other accessories
- A container to hold mail or papers
- A place for a calendar
- A tray or hooks for keys
- A place to store shoes
Since it’s just my husband and I, we decided we don’t need all of these items in order for our entry way to work for us. We purchased these hooks for jackets and three baskets for accessories. Adam is handy, so he made the shelf by beveling and staining a piece of scrap wood then installing these chic brackets. On our honeymoon, I picked up a really cute “Welcome” sign from a street vendor. Here’s how it looks now:
